Greg Crist grew up in the small Southern WV town of Ansted in Fayette County. He graduated from Glenville State University with a BA in education with a specialization in the Social Studies. He taught and coached in the Fayette County School system for 32 years. During his 32 year career he briefly ventured outside public education to work as a Third District Representative for Congressman Nick J. Rahall and as a Fayette County Magistrate.  After a brief retirement he went to work for a program called Jobs and Hope which was a program designed to assist those with barriers back in to the workforce. He now serves as the WORKS Employment Program Coordinator for Aspire Services Center, Inc. In his role with Aspire he is assisting those in recovery get back into the workforce by providing training in the areas of resume writing, interview skills, job searches and job training.
